We are the blast furnace of teacher Education,
feel the heat

Nestled in the heart of Hwange, our college stands as a growing hub of teacher education and community empowerment. Since opening our doors in May 2019, Hwange College of Education has proudly served as Matabeleland North’s first dedicated teacher training institution, preparing passionate educators equipped to teach in local languages — ChiTonga, ChiNambya and IsiNdebele.

What began in the modest annex of Thomas Coulter Primary School has blossomed into a beacon of hope and progress for the region. Guided by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, we remain committed to shaping the future of education in Zimbabwe - one teacher, one student, and one community at a time.

why choose

HWANGE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

We are the first dedicated teacher training institution in Matabeleland North, created to serve, uplift, and empower local communities. Our graduates are equipped to teach in ChiTonga, ChiNambya, and IsiNdebele, preserving cultural heritage through education.

Our programs are designed to meet high academic and professional standards, preparing teachers who are confident, competent, and ready to lead in any classroom environment — especially in underserved areas.

We celebrate diversity and believe that education should reflect the languages, traditions, and values of the people it serves. Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive and learner-centered.

We don't just train teachers — we build community leaders. Our approach encourages active participation in local development, ensuring that our students become role models in their districts.

Hwange College of Education embraces modern pedagogy and teaching methods, while remaining grounded in local realities. We believe in preparing students for the future of education in Zimbabwe and beyond.
